A Scramble with the Kids

The summer holidays are now over and the children are back to School to the relief of most parents. Over the summer holidays we noticed a real surge in parents bringing in their children to try their first indoor sim experience.

In many cases those ranging from four to ten had already been to the driving range, perhaps had a taster as part of their school curriculum or even had lessons. In the most part, however they had never played on an actual golf course, but naturally they really wanted to.

Mainly this is due to the distance they are able to achieve and the fear of holding up other golfers on the course who would no-doubt make their feelings heard.

It was therefore wonderful for us to introduce them to golf on our advanced GOLFZON simulators. When you book a bay, it is your private golf course for the duration and your can take as many shots as you like without fear of judgement, or of holding up the groups behind.

After a warm up in the driving range and showing them how to putt on the system we would then offer to set them up for 18 holes course to which the excitement was palpable.

The trick then is to set it up as a Texas Scramble with both parents and children on the same team. In this way everyone gets to tee off and then all players take their next shots from where the best shots lands, in many cases this will be the adults, but not always, and on the chipping and putting the children have an equal chance of being the one that makes the bridie.

This set up means you are playing as a team to shoot the lowest collective score and both the children and adults love it! (it is also quicker to complete each hole)

It has given us great pleasure as The Links Lounge team to be able to provide the opportunity for a large number of children to experience their first full round of golf, I am sure it is something that will stick in their minds and start that golfing habit for a lifetime.

(for safety reasons The Links Lounge asks that each two under 16s are accompanied by one adult)
